Join us for the opening Celebration of The Laboratory at Harvard. Experiments in the Arts and Sciences.
Featuring: Ryoji Ikeda performing “datamatics [ver. 2.0]” and Benedict Gross the George Vasmer Leverett Professor of Mathematics
Japan's leading digital composer Ryoji Ikeda focuses on the minutiae of ultrasonics, frequencies and the essential characteristics of sound itself. His work exploits sound's physical property, its causality with human perception and mathematical dianoia as music, time and space. Using computer and digital technology to the utmost limit, Ikeda has been developing particular "microscopic" methods for sound engineering and composition.
The Laboratory at Harvard is a three-year experiment to explore the role of creative idea development and expression in the arts and sciences in the educational and cultural life at Harvard, sponsored in part by the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Provost's Office, Le Laboratoire (Paris), and the Idea Translation Lab at Harvard - which is supported by the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, the Harvard Institute for Global Health, and the Heller Family Foundation. www.thelaboratory.harvard.edu
